My Future
I come from a small town in California called Lindsay, while very small in size it’s very big at heart. The people of my town are caring and very involved with the community. While I will always love my hometown, I do not wish to live here forever as there are no major opportunities here to benefit me here. There’s nothing that I want to pursue here once high school’s over, but the world I grew up in has shaped my goals for my future.
Lindsay California has truly inspired me to become a Marine because since I was little all I ever wanted was to be a soldier, I loved anything army when I was growing up. Also, many of my friends have the same goal or at least have a similar one and wish to join another branch of the military. Some of my friends who have already graduated also joined the military and came to say goodbye to everyone before they shipped out. Me and my bestfriend both plan on joining the marines to open up doors and getting better opportunities for our futures, for example going to a better college and being able to support myself. As a Marine I will also see many different parts of the world because Marines travel a lot while on duty.
My family are really big supporters of my decision to join the Marines, except my mom. My mom is afraid that I won’t come back the same or that I won’t come back at all and that i’ll die in combat. My dad by far is the biggest supporter of my decision to become a soldier, and he thinks that me joining the military is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I don’t know if California is where I want to stay, however I might have to because this is where all of my friends and family are and I don’t want to leave them. I don’t want to be far enough to where I can’t visit anytime I want, so I might just stay in California, I really don’t know yet.
The steps I need to take to get to where I want to be are my goals combined with a lot of determination. I think my goals will help me stay focused and reach my goals and ambitions for my future. If I really want it badly enough, then I know I will accomplish my goals. My first goal is to take and pass the ASVAB test in November, passing the ASVAB is very important to my future because if I don’t pass it then I’ll lose my chance of ever joining the military. Then I have to meet exacting physical, mental, and moral standards. Then graduate from high school and get my diploma. I know a lot of people who don’t have their high school diploma and their life is a struggle, they can’t afford the things they need or want. Many of them have kids they may never be able to support on their own, I see them full of sadness because they can’t give their kids all the things they deserve. I do not ever want to be in there situation.
If I for some reason change my mind about pursuing a military career, I plan to become an engineer. First I’ll have to go to a community college for two years then transfer to a university. But before I can do that, I need to finish my core classes in high school so I won’t have to pay a lot for them later because I have to pay for them on my own or my parents will have to themselves. I can’t afford to pay for it myself because I just don’t have that kind of money.
My goal after that is to transfer to, hopefully, Cal Poly, LBSU, SDSU, or UCLA to join their engineering program and triple major in Mechanical, Aerospace, and Chemical engineering and graduate. I want to graduate from these schools because they’re near the coast and still in California, where my family is. I want to major in engineering because ever since I was little I loved taking things apart, seeing how they work, and then putting them back together. It also helps that I’m good at drawing. But before I can do all that, first, I still have to graduate from LHS.
